Marcos DeLeon Named Chief Diversity Officer

DeLeon will lead new RUSH Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in addition to his role as senior vice president, chief human resources officer

Marcos DeLeon has been named chief diversity officer for the Rush University System for Health Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. DeLeon, who joined Rush in 2020, will lead the new office in addition to his responsibilities as senior vice president, chief human resources officer, Rush University System for Health.

When the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Rush University System for Health was launched in 2021, it confirmed Rush鈥檚 commitment to providing a systemwide culture of accountability, respect and belonging. DeLeon will support this and ensure Rush鈥檚 commitment to be an inclusive workplace for all staff, students and faculty across the system hospitals and Rush University.

As leader of Rush鈥檚 DEI efforts, DeLeon will make sure hiring practices are reviewed, ensure employee resource groups are supported, create mentorship opportunities and take a close look at employee retention.

He will drive the work of the Diversity Leadership Council and Racial Justice Action Committee, ensuring that diversity is a key driver through measurable initiatives that address leadership and accountability, employee hiring, retention and promotion and training and communication.

DeLeon received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. He previously served as vice president, human resources, at Johns Hopkins All Children鈥檚 Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, and chief human resources officer at Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Missouri.
