Determined to 鈥渕ove their feet to defeet cancer,鈥 the hosted a walkathon on Sept. 30 to benefit Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center. The club raised $1,600.
鈥淲e have a very generous community,鈥 says Vanessa Liveris, the group鈥檚 president.
Nearly 60 walkers completed a 5K to raise money for the not-for-profit center that provides programs and services free of charge to anyone affected by cancer.
鈥淚t was a wonderful event with many happy walkers 鈥 and a beautiful day weatherwise,鈥 Liveris says, Walkers and their family members and neighbors were very generous. The 5K took place in the Carillon neighborhood.
The service club鈥檚 goals are to serve the community with various activities throughout the year. Its previous donations to Waterford Place include monetary donations as well as items from the center鈥檚 wish list. Members hope to continue to support Waterford Place activities and raise awareness of the resource center and its many programs.
鈥淪ome of our neighbors have had cancer,鈥 Liveris says. 鈥淪ome are survivors and some are still fighting.鈥 She praised the Waterford Place wig salon, which provides wigs to both men and women who have cancer.
鈥滻t鈥檚 a wonderful feeling of fulfillment, contributing to such a worthy organization,鈥 she says. 鈥漌e have a wonderful relationship with Waterford Place.鈥
